Welcome to Freeman on Ford, Beechworth's first and only 5 star accommodation so far in North East Victoria. Freeman on Ford Bed & Breakfast is a former Victorian Oriental Bank and Convent, circa 1876. This grand two storey building has been lovingly restored to accommodate guests who wish to experience luxury accommodation in the heart of town. This magnificent building was the second Brigidine Convent in Australia and was designed by the noted architect at the time, Leonard Terry.
The building has an impressive spiral staircase, fire places in each of the upstairs rooms, ensuites facilities, 15ft high ceilings and craftsmanship no longer found in modern buildings. There are six bedrooms all with private bathrooms and a huge secure private yard.
We are next door to the museum, three doors down from the Information Centre, opposite the Historical Precinct and in the heart of town. We are a few metres away from the famous Von Mueller Gardens where one can bring a picnic hamper or just luxuriate in this beautiful shady park. We are half a minutes walk to the infamous Beechworth Bakery, the finest restaurants and exquisite shops and other major attractions.
The rooms have been outfitted with French antique beds and the best quality fittings making one feel as if one has stepped back in the Victorian period. The rooms are decorated with swag curtains, ceiling roses, chandeliers and the ensuites have period style vanity units, tiles and Victorian lights. The colours of the rooms are in heritage colours with hand stenciled walls and many of the cornices and ceilings have gold trimmed paintwork which are really stunning. The bedrooms are decorated with old fashioned lace curtains, tassels and some have views below to the main street. Large mirrors and old world charm add to the final touches of this unique majestic building.
We supply luxurious linen, t.v., d.v.d and coffee/tea making facilities in each room together with a bar fridge and an ambiance which cannot be replicated. If you like old buildings, history, antiques and an appreciation of the finer things of life, this boutique guest house is for you.
